Black staining continuing at the stair!
Over the Christmas holidays we continued with the black staining, this time working around the staircase area. We started on the main wall and then continued with the ground floor posts, which allowed me to work on one level at a time.
I have left the staircase for the moment, as this will be the last part to be stained. I was wary about scratching the finish, and as the upper area is the full extent of the double height space, which is over 5m, I needed to erect a temporary scaffold in places in order to reach these areas!
These last two shots show the extent of the masking I did in order to undertake the walls within and adjacent to the stair area! The area upwards of the masking tape on the second photo has already had it’s two coats of black stain, and mixed top coat, so that I can now finish the lower area without having to put a ladder or scaffold in this area again. It has been a bit painstaking but worth the effort!
