post box

Corten post box.

Whilst we’ve been working on the house we have been lucky enough to have my dad helping us to make our corten clad post box. We are using corten as an accent material around the periphery of the house, from the surround to the front door, to this post box, and garden edging, we love the patina that develops quickly and protects the metal from further corrosion.

As the house is so airtight we can’t have a letter box so we are having a free-standing one instead. We have designed this to have a letter box on one side, with space for the house name to be fixed, and a parcel box on the rear.

Here are some photos of the sequence. Firstly, the sheet corten stacked on the drive… Secondly the frame under construction, separated from the corten steel with DPC… Thirdly, the rear panels of corten starting to be fixed in place.

Here are some photos of the final post-box in situ, complete with stainless steel house letters!
